Conover edits the 256 issues of his Clockmakers Newsletter into workshop manuals, reorganized by subject. The first chapter of this book provides set-up procedures, tube hanging arrangements, and work methods for the repair shop and the customers home. Chapter 2 covers German and English tubular bell clocks by makers such as Winterhalder & Hoffmeier and Elliott. European manufacturers made many of the tubular bell clocks produced from about 1880 until the Great Depression in the next century. Chapter 3 is devoted to the American-made Herschede tubular bell clock movements manufactured until 1984. Steven G. Conover completed the first edition of How to Repair Herschede Tubular Bell Clocks in 1986. As a result of strong reader interest, new articles and discussions about specific Herschede repairs began appearing in Clockmakers Newsletter. These features are included in this book.
